The city of Savannah's Recreation and Leisure Services Department will open all four city pools on Tuesday and host an array of aquatic programs for residents this summer, including swim lessons, water aerobics classes, junior lifeguard classes, lap swimming, and swim teams. "We realize that keeping young people busy, active, engaged, and tired is a tremendous opportunity for us to reduce what we know is a noticeable trend of criminal activities at night involving young people." The city will host a Summer Kick-Off Pool Party on Wednesday at the Daffin Park Pool, with food, drinks, and a DJ, to celebrate the beginning of summer vacation. There are 15 slots available per session and four for our tiny tots, ages 3-5, per session. The majority of swim sessions are for youth ages 3-16. The city also offers two adult sessions, a morning slot at Daffin Park and an evening slot at Tompkins Pool. Saturday classes are also available at Daffin Park only. Residents can register at Daffin Park on May 19 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Registration will continue until classes are filled. Ford, Tompkins, and W.W. Law pools are accepting swimmers. Residents are encouraged to sign up at the pool most convenient for them starting on Tuesday. Practice will be held Monday through Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. at all pools.
