Should Christians watch the Pope's exorcist? ›

Like most exorcism films, it exploits Christian and Catholic imagery in a way that neither meaningfully depicts it but just uses it as set dressing for supernatural mythology. Characters discuss God, confession, and temptation, and yet it doesn't feel like more than acting in a movie.

Any parent should keep this movie away from kids. It may be a classic, but it's a mature classic. This movie is very complex when it comes to religion, but also incredibly scary to some people to this day.

Rated R for some violent content, disturbing images, language and sexual references.

Some parts of the movie are scary (not that much). But for me it is definitely worth watching because even though it is a bit cliche it still has unexpected parts. Especially Russel Crowe's acting was great, and the part of father Gabriele was fun to see for a priest.

People were unprepared for the graphic imagery — the manipulations and helplessness of a Devil-possessed human body, the profanity coming out of the mouth of a child, the violence, and the broken-limbed scuttling spider walk. All of these things were new and truly shocking to people at the time.

There are no inappropriate scenes however the movie can be disturbing to some people because they talk about suicide,ghosts,etc. If your kids are 11+ and are mature for their age i think this horror movie is a hit and you should watch it!

The Pope's Exorcist has a few original ideas but overall it is just a rehashing of previous exorcism films. Fresh score. Although pretty formulaic and full of the scares you'd expect, the lead performance from Russell Crowe and the horror visuals make it worth the watch.

Expect extreme gore, grotesque effects (bulging eyes, sores, etc.), and scares, and two important characters die.

'The Conjuring' and 'Nefarious' are safer movies and do not glorify evil. They are dealing with the realities of a dark realm driven by Satan and his minions as well as the light of God that can overcome it. 'The Conjuring' can overplay Satan's power though.
