Wednesdaymorning, officers served sevenarrest warrants as part ofround twoof the operation. Althoughthe name Operation was Double Trouble was chosen back in June 2014 when Narcotics Officer JohnAnderson and Chief Deputy Prosecutor Beth Sermersheim began the investigation, it ended up being afitting choice given that the warrants were served in tworounds.

This approach differs from the one takenwith Operation Big Brother, the first operation undertaken by Anderson and Sermersheim, because 16arrest warrants were served at one time with Operation Big Brother. Operation Double Trouble wasconducted in tworounds at the request of Sheriff Donny Lampert, in order to ease the burden on the Sheriff’sDepartment and on the Dubois County Security Center when the inmates are brought to the jail.

According to Lampert, he believes that tworounds helped to ensure the safety of the community and officers
by limiting the number of high risk arrests taking place at one time. He also believes that tworoundsminimized the costs associated with the arrests by allowing the justice system to absorb the arrests over aperiod of time.

According to Sermersheim, conducting tworounds of arrests rather than one large round-up involvedmore extensive logistical planning due to the coordination of a significant number of officers on two separate dates.

Sermersheim attributed the smoothness of both rounds to the efforts of DetectiveSergeant Tom Kleinhelter. Kleinhelter completed much of the behind-the-scenes planning in bothOperation Big Brother and Operation DoubleTrouble in order to ensure the safe and successful executionof the arrest warrants.

Sermersheim stated that the efforts and cooperation of many people are required tocomplete large-scale operations of this kind. Operation Double Trouble included undercover drug buys ofmethamphetamine, heroin, MDMA, and Schedule II, III and IV controlled substances.

Prosecuting Attorney Anthony Quinn commended both Narcotics Officer Anderson and ChiefDeputy Prosecutor Sermersheim for their hard work and dedication not only in this investigation, but alsoin the work they continue to do on a daily basis. Quinn stated that the abuse and illegal distribution ofcontrolled substances continues to be a problem in Dubois County.

The Dubois County Prosecutor’sOffice will continue to stringently enforce all Indiana dealing statutes, while at the same time looking forways to promote rehabilitation and reduce recidivism in our community.
