The then 14-year-old Jessica was slated to star in her high school play but later pulled out after suffering from fits of weakness and tiredness. Soon her world would come crashing down to the earth after her dad revealed that she had been diagnosed with leukemia.
Doctors advised her family members to test for bone marrow transplant but prefaced it by saying that there would only be a 10 percent chance of beating cancer. Luckily for her, her doctorsdeemedthen 12-year old Kristina a match. Post surgery, she was placed in an isolation room for eight months.
Jessica, now 29, is still in remission. Eventually, her time battling cancer would inspire her to pursue a career in nursing.
