If you want to start with the classic Empire vs Rebels then the Star Wars: Armada Core Set is the place to start. This box comes packed with everything you need for two players to start their galactic campaigns: a Victory-class Star Destroyer, a Nebulon-B frigate, a CR90 Corellian corvette, and squadrons of X-wings and TIE fighters. The Core Set also includes all the necessary dice, cards, and measuring tools required to play the game.If you want to go down the Clone Wars route then the two Fleet Starters are the newest way to start Armada. They are the most cost effective way to start either the Republic or Separatist fleets. The contents is pretty similar: 1 medium ship, 2 small ships, 4 fighter squadrons. Also included are all the essential tools to play the game such as dice, measuring sticks, rulebook and cards. Unlike the Core Set, these fleet starters are the only way to get the ships inside, they don’t have standalone expansions. These are aimed at a single player wanting to get into the game or start a new fleet.It doesn’t matter if you want to start a Republic fleet and your friend starts a Rebel fleet. All fleets can battle each other out in space the same, so don’t worry about it being strictly Galactic Empire vs the Rebel Alliance or Galactic Republic vs Separatist Alliance.
It’s worth noting that there are plenty of expansion sets available, which add new ships, squadrons, and commanders to your game. These expansions can be purchased as you grow more comfortable with the game and want to explore new strategies.
